In 2018 The Australian Government introduced the Modern Slavery Act, requiring businesses to report on the risks of modern slavery in their operations and supply chains.
Under the Act, large businesses and other entities operating in Australia must report annually on how they are addressing modern slavery risks in their domestic and global operations and supply chains.
To this effect, many Australian businesses (particularly those that are classified as reporting entities under the Act) are integrating the dimensions of reporting into their core business dealings and they are choosing to only work with those businesses that can satisfy their reporting requirements.
Feedback from APPA members indicates that they are now being asked by their clients to provide evidence of policies and procedures within their business. With over 4000 reporting entities in Australia, APPA predicts that the number of these requests from clients will increase over time.
