August 2021 Board Meeting Summary

The APPA Board held its most recent meeting on Friday 20 August 2021 over Zoom.

Below is a summary of the meeting from President Robert Williams:

APPA’s financial position hit another blow recently with the cancelled Roadshow. Consequently, APPA is set to experience a loss for the second financial year in a row. Accounts from the 2020-2021 financial year are currently being audited in preparation of our Annual Member's Meeting and the release of APPA's Annual Report.

The Board continues to diligently monitor our financial reserves to ensure our members can continue to be serviced throughout this tough period. To further enhance our governance practices, a reserves policy will now be developed to ensure we retain certain reserves for any future unforeseen circumstances. The Board will also set out to implement an investments policy to proactively generate extra income from these reserves.

As with every meeting, we reviewed progress against the strategic plan initiatives which are moving forward as cost effectively as possible. Key projects currently underway include the new APPA Search (to be launched in November), mandatory code of conduct training, a distributor benchmarking project, the mentoring program and the Y-Promo Virtual Series.

Additional highlights of this meeting include:

  • New criteria being set to approve international membership applications;
  • Thirteen new membership applications since the last Board meeting officially approved;
  • Membership fees will remain unchanged again in 2022 (well over 10 years now since the last membership fee increase);
  • The Board considered the current composition of the Board and decided to call for nominations for one extra director with a preference for a supplier member; and
  • The structure and guidelines of APPA life membership were discussed and these are to be reviewed and updated;

The Board were very pleased with the results of the recent membership satisfaction survey which showed that key member satisfaction KPI’s had increased significantly since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

I personally thank all the board members for their amazing work behind the scenes and congratulate the APPA staff who have done fantastic work. Together, we continue to lead our industry forward to ensure that all of our members succeed.
